Quepos: 18 km (11 mi)

A new record! Actually we sleep until 7:30 a.m.. Normally here in Costa Rica we wake up at 06:00 a.m.. But we haven’t missed anything, because today it’s just another morning greeting us with rain. All the more we are very happy that we had such a fantastic weather yesterday for our visit to Manuel Antonio park.

Having plenty of time we do not rush with our breakfast. Later in the morning weather gets better and we drive to Quepos to go for a stroll. It’s a lively small town and we like it. Now we are in Costa Rica for two weeks already, but this is the first time that we have the feeling to be in a more authentic town and not in a tourist place. So we take the opportunity to experience Costa Rican every day life including a visit to the weekly market.

After a little bit of shopping we have a light lunch at “El Gran Escape” restaurant. We order seafood chowder as a starter to share followed by “Fried Spicy Calamares” and “Smoked Trout Quesadilla. It is quite annoying however that we get all the food at the same time. So we have to eat quickly to enjoy our food as long as it keeps warm.

Initially we have planned to visit the Butterfly Garden which is near our hotel. But now as it is raining again we don’t feel like it any longer. Instead of watching butterflies we therefore spend the afternoon reading on our patio.

Later we borrow umbrellas from the reception and walk to restaurant „Cantina“ where we had dinner the evening before. Today at 5:00 p,m we are the only guests who benefit from the „Two For One“ happy hour deal. But paying half the price for a cocktail doesn’t really make fun considering the lack of ambiance.

So we leave again after one drink only and walk to „Aqua Azul“ where we find two vacant seats at the bar and order mojitos. As yesterday this place is full of tourists from the US. Actually we haven’t planned to eat here, but when we see the “monster burger” being served to the people next to us, we cannot but have to order it too. But just one, as it is really a giant burger filling up both of us. Junk food, but yummy.
